In the Caribbean Sea, there is a fish that frustrates fishermen that seek it. An ancestral fish that reaches colossal sizes and, when feeling trapped, flies through the air. Barrios Tarpon Shrimp

Brian Elward has tied a couple of great flies in front of our camera. This week itâ€™s one of his favorite tarpon flies for fishing the mangroves: The Barrios Shrimp! In the protective surroundings of the mangroves and estuaries shrimp seek shelter and food. They thrive between the roots and are washed out via rivers into the sea. Easy pickings for predators such as tarpon and snook who feed on them heavily. This fly has itâ€™s roots in Puerto Rico. An innovative and excellent tarpon fisherman Orlando Barrios first posted some pictures of this shrimp.

Supernatural

Early in 2010 an eerie drama was unfolding in South Florida. The winter had brought record low temperatures, worrisome fish kills, and questions about the the future. Uncertainty and nervousness consumed many connected to the ocean. When Spring finally emerged, things were still strange. By April, we were at a tipping point. The ominous threat of the Deepwater Horizon disaster was creeping closer and closer. Everything was on the edge. It felt as if a threat from another world was bearing down.

High in the Lowlands

Fly Fishing For Snook, Tarpon, and Redfish in the Everglades. In the past, Dave and I tried hard to get people excited about fly fishing. Our goal was to make the audience feel what we feel every time we head out on the flats. The final result was a high action, high intensity, visual montage with hard hitting music to convey the emotion. Needless to say, it got lots of anglers out there fired up, and it was a blast to create! But then there were the nay-sayers, the grumps that didn't like what we were doing to their sport, didn't like the attitude, and called our films porn. Great!

Fly Fishing for Tarpon Sarasota, FL

Chasing Tarpon on fly in Sarasota bay. For 2 hours at the tide change the fish were pouring across the bar. At one point we had a Sailboat go right down our line of fish, sail over to us and ask us what type of fish that was swimming around.
