Hook anatomy and hook types
Kamasan B840 streamer hook
By Martin Joergensen
This is a very neat hook. It's geometrical and regular, but beautifully shaped. It's main virtues are its thin, black wire wich makes even large size flies very light, and its very sharp point.
The color makes it a favourite for some of my black flies. As is the case with salmon flies, many salt water flies look very nice on black hooks.
The hook is stainless, but this seems to be obtained through some kind of varnish/japonizing rather than using stainless steel. It's quite durable though and can be used in salt water with success.
I have tied most of my streamer flies on this hook, and experimented with a lot of patterns. Check out my salt water spiders, this black night fly and the Bullet Head Magnus on this hook.
