Here is an early CDC parachute emerger pattern using CDC in a dubbing loop.
Gerhard Laible created many patterns using "paper clips" to hold CDC fibers and put them in a dubbing loop. He eventually marketed his own set of special clips for this purpose.
He published the first book dedicated to CDC in 1993 called "CDC Flies".
I tie this pattern using just a clip and hackle pliers - no special tools.
Hook: dry fly hook
Thread: black 72D Magpie
Tail: Brown spade hackle fibers
Body: mink fur
Post: foam yellow. I used EVA but original probably used PE foam.
"Hackle" for dubbing loop: CDC - color of your choice
The pattern can be varied to suit the insect you are trying to imitate. The post being made of something that floats will help.
Enjoy!
