Early Black Stone Fly

Quick easy dry stonefly pattern. Can also be tied in brown, or yellow for when the yellow sally's hatch in the summer.

Jim,

Nice, simple pattern. Just tied one with a black wing which matches the ones I see locally. I like this kind of fly as it looks like a gosh darn real stone fly. I also can appreciate your use of the half-hitch to get the hackle barbules under control. I thought I was the only one who did that since I don't always end up at the perfect point in front of the eye.

Thanks.

Since you got this far …

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
