Jelly Juicy Nymph

Here is a small and simple fly — easy to tie and incredibly effective during late autumn and winter.
I started tying this pattern almost 20 years ago, mainly for my fishing trips on the San River in Poland. Tied small, on size 18 hooks like this Hanak model, it will hook plenty of grayling. Trout will take it too, but I personally avoid places with trout at this time of year because they are spawning.

To add a bit of sparkle without using synthetic dubbing, I use tinsel as an underbody. Because the body material (the Micro Wormy Body thread) is translucent, the shine from the tinsel comes through the wraps and creates a very tempting look in the water.
Materials:
-hooks in size 16/18/20
-thread: Sumo 30DEN white translucent

-under body: peacock uv tinsel (color code A9)

-body: yellow micro wormy body -mayfly yellow

-thorax: squirrel dubbing - eastern grey natural

-legs: partridge barbs
-bead: black or black nickel 2mm tungsten

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
