Mini Jigged Wooly Bugger

Small streamers like this Mini Jigged Wooly Bugger are some of the best flies to fish for trout with in the winter time. Especially if you make them extra heavy. Winter trout tend to sit in deep holes and not move much for food since there aren't too many hatches going on in the winter. This means you have to get down deep, and almost bump them on the nose to initiate a strike. This is why I like fishing these small wooly buggers on a jig hook with a heavy tungsten bead. Not only does this insure I get down deep, very quickly, to where the trout are, but fishing a jig with a slotted tungsten bead means the fly swims hook point up, keeping you from snagging on the bottom as much. These are also very easy and quick to tie, so if you do happen to snag, it's not the end of the world. You won't be loosing a fly that took you a half hour to tie, or cost a lot in materials.
