Moustique du Jura

First CDC Pattern 1920s.

This is going to be the first of some videos looking at the history of using what we now call CDC or "duck preen gland feathers" in fly tying.

The research into the history of CDC was done by Marc Petijean. He came to two figures in the Swiss Jura - Maximilien Joset and Charles Bickel. Both had passed away already but Marc learned about Joset from Louis Veya, who learned to tie from Joset, and he also learned about Bickel from his niece who gave him a collection of his patterns. Both men around the same time (1920s) used duck preen gland feathers in the same basic way. Did they know each other? Did they come up with the same idea independently? They lived about 100 km from each other in a mountainous zone...so it is possible they met but also maybe they did not...

Here is a video of this fly tied a bit differently.

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
