Rubber Legged Beetle

This particular beetle pattern is very easy to tie and fishes extremely well. This fly will stay upright 100% of the time, if tied correctly. The key is to cut the foam shellback a bit wider than the gap of the hook. The AFF D101 hook used here is a little heavier than a typical 1X fine dry fly hook but helps extremely well with keeping the fly upright. The chartreuse foam hot spot helps you keep an eye on your fly and the rubber legs help gives the fly a "bit of life" when on the water. I have the most success with this fly in mid to late summer and fall. I generally search for crushing trout near the banks and cast the fly just in front of there path. Give it a little twitch and FISH ON!

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
