Tofting's Scud

No comments yet

Learn how to tie one of the most effective Scud patterns for sea trout using Pro Sportfisher Gammarus Shells. Rather than focusing on one exact pattern, this video demonstrates a versatile approach to tying realistic scuds that can easily be adapted to different fishing conditions.

During the tutorial, you'll see several different ways to create an attractor spot (hot spot), allowing you to customize the fly depending on water clarity, light conditions, and fish behavior. Whether you prefer a subtle natural look or a more triggering pattern, these techniques will help you tie highly effective scuds.

The skilled Per Tofting we'll also cover different options for creating the shell and rib. In this example, a wire rib is used, but you can just as easily substitute it with clear nylon for a cleaner, more translucent appearance or experiment with different thread colors to achieve your preferred finish.

Scuds are among the most productive flies for sea trout fishing, especially in shallow coastal water where fish actively feed on crustaceans. They can be tied both weighted and unweighted, making them ideal for everything from skinny water to deeper areas where a slower presentation is needed.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced fly tyer, this pattern is easy to adapt and belongs in every sea trout fly box.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
