I love this fly, Great job. Does anyone have a source for the small foam cylinders in various colors? I can't seem to find them. Thank you

Roger,

You can safely wash off any powder on skins you buy. It's either borax, salt or some preservation substance. If you keep the skins dry and have them stored in Ziploc bags, you're fairly sure that no bugs will find their way to them.

Take care when rinsing the starling skins. They can be rather thin and will become fragile when soaked. Simply rinse them shortly and maybe add a bit of soap and rinse again if they are very dirty.

What about bird skins like starling that sometimes might come with white powder on them (borax or drying agent for killing bugs?) I was told that sometimes the skins carry larvae and the powder is meant to kill them just in case. Is it ok to wash them and wash off that white powder?

Wonderful work. I have been trying to find the correct pen and ink to do the job without much success. Can you tell me what pen(s) you use and what do you use for ink. I have seen and read several articles about using paints that seem to work pretty well.

Thanks and again beautifule work

I don't like the scierra river bullets because you have to let the hook and silicone tubing stay unattached to the bullet tube. I don't believe Noels question was adequately answered. I'd like to see some detail on this. Basically, is the hook and tube unattached from the bullet.

I met a man who was a Doctor from Maine Back in the late 90s and we became good friends. He was also a fly fisherman like me. he was ailing and one day I was doing some work for him and he handed me and old sheep skin with a bunch of old flies on it. He told me that when he was younger he got these from Carrie Stevens a famous fisherwomen from Maine. I have never tried to fish with them they are still wrapped up in that old sheep skin. there are some grey ghost in the mix. How can I get these verified?

Hi Martin,

I found C&F bobbin threaders to snap too often :( Do you know proven substitute threader that would work with C&F bobbin?

Thanks for sharing this very inspiring web page. I've spent the last three or four years trying to find the right Grannom pattern to no avail, and found the mainstream UK pre-tied market lacking for this particular hatch. I have bitten the bullet and taken up fly tying and this seems like a very good starting point...

Just watched your video on how to tie the walt's worm and walt's sexy worm. It was great. I am having trouble finding a site that has all the material used. Would you please send me a good site to buy the materials. Also list all materials used. Thanking You in advance...Ted Lumbrazo

Do you still have the Smart Spoolers? Do you send to Europe? What would be the grand total? I need two of them.
Greetings
Sjo

Amato Publication books are a great source of information. Most are packed with patterns and the patterns usually work. I highly recommend their releases and I have over a dozen. :)

Ronn Lucas in Oregon, I believe, sells his handmade hooks for art but don't try to buy any flies. They're never for sale. I heard he bought a hook business. I've seen some of his art hooks as large as 8 inches long.

The USD brown shrimp is almost exactly what the browns, speckles, and rainbows eat in my area of Nova Scotia. I don't tie my own flies but would like to buy some of these. Can they be purchased?

Since you got this far …

A money box
The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
