Arctic Sea Trout

No comments yet

I’ve spent this winter chasing sea trout along the Arctic coast — through flat water, silent days, seals cruising by, and those rare moments when trout rise in clear, calm water close to shore. Off season fishing can be challenging, frustrating and incredibly rewarding, and this film follows my journey through it all.

The light returns slowly in February, day by day. The conditions shift from ice cold stillness to the first real breath of spring, and with it, the hope of meeting the trout again. Some days they show. Some days they vanish. Patience becomes just as important as the flies.

On one of these trips, my good friend Bård joined me as we searched for rising fish along the shoreline. And just as the season felt stuck, the North reminded me how quickly things can turn.

This film is my story from the end of the off season to the very first true spring day with a fly rod in hand — when the trout leave the rivers and head for the sea to feed and grow fat.
A new chapter begins.

🔔 Highlights:
Arctic fly fishing, chasing early‑season coastal trout.
Real winter conditions: ice‑cold water, rising trout, brutal weather, and breathtaking Arctic scenery.

🎣 Why sea trout on the fly?
They’re active, powerful, and unpredictable. You read the water, time the windows, and then watch it happen. Strong fish, clean visuals—pure fun.

ⓘ ABOUT ME:
I live in Northern Norway, surrounded by rivers, lakes, and endless coastline. Spring is all about chasing sea trout along the Arctic shores, often under the glow of the midnight sun. When summer arrives, I switch to dry fly fishing for brown trout and Arctic char in crystal-clear mountain streams.
Fly fishing isn’t just a hobby – it’s a way of life. Every season brings new challenges, from icy spring mornings to golden summer nights, and I love sharing these moments through my videos.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
