A "Sooty Olive" is a classic, traditional Irish wet fly pattern used in fly fishing, especially on large loughs (lakes) for trout, mimicking dark olive lake olives (Cloeon simile) and chironomids (buzzers), featuring a dark olive/black fur body, gold or silver rib, bronze or grey mallard wings, and a golden pheasant tippet tail popular when these natural insects hatch in late spring/early summer.

Hook, Size 12s and 14s Wet Fly
Thread, Black
Tail, Golden Pheasant Tippet
Rib, Small Silver or Gold Tinsel
Body, A Mix of Black and Olive Seals Fur or Sub
Hackle, Black Hen
Throat, Bronze Mallard dyed Olive or Natural
Wing, Grey or Bronze Mallard
