Pheasant Tail

No comments yet

This is the fly pattern titled Pheasant Tail in Roger Woolley's Modern Trout Fly Dressings in the section for Devon Wet Flies.

Body: cock pheasant tail fibers ribbed with gold wire
Hackle and Whisks: Golden dun cock

Recently, Robert Smith, brought back to attention a pattern called the "Devon Constable" originated by James Nice in the mid 1900s...that is a dry fly and very similar but calls for two hackles - one dun and one red. Perhaps James took his inspiration from this pattern - Woolley's book published in 1932 and clearly this pattern pre-dates that.

Below is a link about Nice and his patterns.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
