The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Folks,

I have now heard back from our usual hostel in Odense, and they don't have room for us either! So we're about as seriously *beeped* as we can be. The Kragsbjerg folks do have a solution, though: we can sleep and have breakfast in their City hostel near the main train station in Odense and have our Saturday evening dinner in the usual place. That means living in central Odense and some moving back and forth.

This is the place: http://www.cityhostel.dk/?sprogid=2

We might have some parking problems and staying in downtown Odense isn't exactly close to any fishing water, but since it seems to be the only option we have, I intend to say yes thank you and move forward with that solution.

It's a pain that we can't get what we want - nearer water or at least what we usually have - but it seems that the autumn is fully booked everywhere.

Let me hear some quick yes' and no's on this, because I need to return as soon as possible.

I have sent you my idea Martin...

Believe me Odense is no picnic and will, I think, cause no end of problems. I totally would not recommend it due to the lack of parking.

Martin has my idea. He can chew it over and if interested, post it.

I can help, and will, where I can with regard to this...

I wish I could help... All I can do from my part is search on the net.

Hi all,

While having the occasional beer by the water during previous summits, discussions about the optimal accommodation for the venue have come up quite regularly. Some of the most interesting ideas have involved staying close to the water, opening up for a chance of prime-time fishing early in the morning and late in the evening, and this really sounds appalling in the afternoon when fishing has been kind of slow but you just know it will pick up as the evening comes…

I’m all for self catering, preferably in walking distance from the water, but we have to realise that for an event like this one with 30-40 participants this demands a fair amount of discipline and coordination. I have been involved in 4 days fishing trips with 15-20 participants to the “middle of nowhere” with everything collective a few times and the main issue is to get as many as possible to take on some responsibility. There are always those that seem to dodge all tasks, but defining smaller groups with defined tasks in advance really helps.

So for me, preferably not city centre Odense (although the “within walking distance to the shoppingarea” really sounds exciting), but it won’t stop me from participating.

I’ll try some contacts I have in the Middlefart area, but from what Martin has written previously I’m not really that optimistic.

Cheers,
/atli

I know that the weekend has been set, and that some of us have already planned a vacation during that time (me included), but could another weekend maybe solve the problem with the hostel in Odense? I know with enough advanced notice, there could still be time for make the necessary arrangements.
Just a thought.

Folks,

To address the different issues:

Paul: moving will not do the trick. We will have to go far into October, and that means no Martin - I'll (unfortunately) be in BC by then. And October is cold and wet...

Atli: Self catering might sound like something charming, but sitting down at a ready table with warm food and hot coffee is more like what we want after and before a whole day by the water. And I will not be the one shopping, cooking and not least coordinating cleaning up after you people on Sunday with half of the bunch already spread out over most of Northern Europe! I'll stay with the full service model!

All others: I'm looking into some scout camps close to the water on West Fyn, which have the space but will require hiring kitchen and cleaning staff. If that does not give any results before Monday it's Odense.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
