New to Denmark, ready to fish

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Goodag,

I have recently been assigned to work in Copenhagen for one year. I found this website prior to my arrival and now that I am settled I would like to enjoy some fall fishing. I have read most of the information provided about local fishing and as I understand, sea trout are my best prospect. I have several salt and freshwater rods and reels and I am a fairly accomplished fly angler in both salt and freshwater.

Can someone please suggest a location where I can fish (i don't mind traveling a bit)? I would also like some information on where to obtain my permit.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Swoosh: Fishing permit can be purchased in tackle shops, Post office etc. Season ticket for sea costs 125 DKK.

Swoosh,

If you go any where in the salt at the moment you should connect with something. I am located in Jutland DK but if you want to fish Fyn maybe we could meet up.
Contact me.

Hi,

Here's the correct prices for the standard Danish licence.

Day licence DKK 30.00
Week licence DKK 90.00
1-year licence DKK 125.00

You can buy any of the licences on line at: www.fisketegn.dk

Hope it helps.

Hello friends,
I need some help from Danish members.
We (me and one friend) are going to spend some time in Denmark. We are going to work and/or study there. Situation in Lithuania is not the best for non qualified people and because of that we decided to emigrate for some time.
I would like to ask about fishing gear. I will pick my 6/7wt Catapult for seatrout fishing and what rods do I need more? Double handers/light single handers? Also about the flies. I think i need mudlers/buggers/freds/sand eels and what more? :)
Thank you for information.

P.S. If there is someone who knows a work for 2 persons or could help with employment information please contact with me :)

Hi Sarunas,

No doubt your 6/7 weight Catapult, combined with a floating WF or shooting head, will cover most of your needs in Denmark. But there is (a bit) more to Denmark than coastal fishing; there are a few streams (most of them in Jutland) that hold sea-trout, salmon, brown trout and/or grayling and there are lakes that hold pike, perch and more. And if you find yourself in Sealand, South-Swedish waters are also within reach.

This said; I would definitely bring a light single hander, for the occasional small stream fishing, and consider bringing a double hander for salmon and a heavy single hander for pike (I am just fine without the latter two myself...).

Sea-trout on the coast is usually not all that picky, so you are more or less covered with the flies you mention; make sure to have some scrimp and gammarus immitations, high riding dark muddlers for summer nights and some pink stuff for cold winter days.

Cheers,
/atli

Hei Atli,
Thanks for reply!
I have the greatest catapult setup that I discovered. Vision cheap shooting head + thin running line + stripping basket! Tested in Sweden- will be great in Denmark ;)
I guess I will bring 4wt single hander and two DH rods #6 and #8 with scandi/skagit setup for salmons.
By the way I can not found almost any information about license prices in Denmark. I know only that sea fishing license cost 120DKK. Any information about rivers when salmon season starts?
I think I also bring a lot of tying material with me. This is for that case if I don't find any work soon :) So no problem with flies!
Maybe someone know is there any fishing tackle shop in Aarhus?
Thanks again!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
