trip to Mongolia

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Hi All!

there are some guys including myself going to Mongolia this June. The advantage of this particular trip is the River. It is located in closed to civilians military area but the the guys know the base commander and they allowed exclusively to fish there. They tried it last year and want to be back again. They say it was madness! Many of fish probably never seen a human being and there is plenty of them. My friends are globetrotter-flyfishermen and they were fishing everywhere but never saw anything like that before. The biggest tajmen was 138 cm(54 inch) and local trouts(lenok) 50-60 cm and they got bored fishing these babies after just few days. Considering fact that there is less and less tajmen in Mongolia it is great opportunity to meet the King without risk. I know some people who fished some other mongolian places and didn't even smell the fish. The River gives you a chance to get some over the meter long or got many with no doubt. The little downside is the price:2000 US dollars+tickets+visa(s) but it is really worth the money! Fly fishing and spinning allowed; barbless hooks and C&R required-there is no need to kill them-the food is included;-)
If you have any questions do not wait just ask mwiacek@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk

Hi Michal, hope you have a great time, perhaps you could do a trip report for everyone with some pics of all those fish when you get back? I for one would like to read about it.
All the best.
Mike.

Hi Mike!
To enjoy the trip we need at least two more people to go with us.If we found nobody we won't go. But if we do I'll try to write a report with some photos.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
