Uk Sea Troutters visit Fyn

Forums:

Hi guys,

I have recently organised a trip to Fyn for some Uk anglers. We will be visiting in May, and hopefully will be targetting Sea Trout around Middlefart? This is not a commercial organised trip, more of a get together for sea trout addicts. We dont fish alot for sea trout in the Salt in the UK, so our trip will be a new experience.

I hope it is as successful as your 2006 summit, it looked a great trip.

I would be interested to know what kind of patterns to consider for May, and also is night fishing the best option for this time of year. Is Middlefat a good area, or should we drive to fish further afield?

All the best and tight lines

Seatroufishing...

Hi Hoppy.

Middelfart is a perfect starting point for Danish seatrout adventures. You are close to both Vejle- and Kolding fjord: Some good places are pointed out here: http://lystfiskeri.dk/fiskepladsamt.asp?key=6
I will advice you to get a hold of the booklet "Havørredguide Fyn" which you can order here http://www.seatrout.dk/modules/fyntour/shop.php?langcode=da&categoryid=187 for an excelent guide to coastal fishing on Fyn.
Depending on the weather and especially the water temperature, night fishing might be a good idea, if the weather/water is summer-like, nightfishing is a must and personally I just go for black flies then. Othervise bring gray crustacean patterns like the gray frede types and you'll be covered, other patterns are plentyfully found on these pages.

Sea trout...

Hi Hoppy,

No such thing as sea trout in Denmark. It's a scam!
There's too much pollution and Richard the Thirds floating around for one!!!! :D

Only kidding...

You'll get all the jerry klobber you will need regarding flies, gear, sea trout, techniques and then some, all in here at GFF. Surf around.
Your having a bath if you plan to use those UK 10ft+ rods, and anything over a class# 7, leave at home.
Most locals use #5 to 7, especially for that time of year.
Leave your flies at home that are on a hook size 4 or larger. We use size 6 to 12.
Floating lines, WF are pucker. Please - No sinking lines.

Take a butchers at the information stashed in here.

Location - I agree with the above. Seatrout Fyn guidebook. This link will take you to the English version: http://www.visitfyn.com/modules/fsArticle/index.php?categoryid=148 is an excellent choice and in English. An ideal bible, second to me!!!!

Don't forget your licence too... https://www.fisketegn.dk/fisketegn/common/setupAnglerFisherType.do
Or you can buy it over here in any post office, fishing tackle store, camping ground and so forth...

I'd be more than happy to show you some key areas where you can connect with sea trout.
That's how simple it is...

Cheers!

s not choosing a pattern but finding the fish! Middelfart is a good starting point, but expect to be pushed around a bit by the ever changing wind. Night fishing may be a good idea in May, but early morning and evening might be as good - even better - and far more human!

There is lots of stuff on Danish coastal fishing on this site. Here for instance.

Hi Hoppy,...

Hi Hoppy,
I stayed in Denmark for two weeks in june this year and one of the places i fished was middlefart.
You will need to wade out quite a way to find the deeper water,.......and the fish.
I fished at night with a black muddler with arctic fox tail and managed two small cod.
But i liked Denmark so much that i've already booked for two weeks next year,I agree about the book 117 .........you must get it.

I posted on the flyforums...

I posted on the flyforums regarding this trip, but no reply........

Hopefully I can get over and get distantstreams to steer me towards the monsters :D
