Redfish Crack

The redfish crack is by far the pattern that gets put on the end of my fly rod the most when fishing for Redfish down in the Texas Gulf. This fly for some reason seems to always work. Granted in my opinion it does look like a brown shrimp which is one of the more common shrimp species down in the area I fish, and it is a very common food source for redfish and speckled trout. I have even caught a flounder on this fly as well! Just an absolute amazing pattern that is fairly easy to make. Just make a tail with either craft fur or bucktail, and then wrap on a brush. You can add flash and legs like I did or keep the tail plain. Up to you.

If you want to make your own brush for this, here is a tutorial I did on this exact brush. https://youtu.be/DiQfoLOBOPQ

According to texassaltwaterfishingmagazine.com, the original pattern came from Andy Packmore who tied it more with EP fiber only than with the legs and such. His was much more simple and worked great. That is all I can really find with the little digging I did on originally where this came from. If you have more info on its origin then let me know in the comment section below.

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
