Marabou Black Ghost

Here we will be tying the fly Black Ghost by mr. Herbert Welch. This time I'll be tying my personal version of it which I prefer to use for seatrout when I fish for that fish in salt water on the tides in the beautiful Westfjords of Iceland. I have to admit that Black Ghost is 100% my favourite streamer pattern ever. The deal with this saltwater version is to keep the profile of the fly as slim as possible because as mentioned in the video, the sand eel that the seatrout is eating are soo small and thin! They are like little needles of silver maybe inch long, maybe inch and a half. Therefore I want the profile of the fly to be slim, and yes! It works fantastic. Also in my area the seatrout is eating herring so small baitfish patterns work good as well. However this version of the fly is also an excellent choice for stream and lake fishing. The fly catches both brown trout, seatrout an even salmon. It's not too complicated to tie one and totally worth keeping a few in your box when you go fishing. The Black Ghost is my Go-to fly and has been for decades and will be in future. Always have a Black Ghost in your fly box please.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
