Kajs Vulgata

Christmas Eve for the dedicated dry fly fishermen is not at the end of December like the rest of the world, but rather when the elegant mayflies like drakes, danicas and vulgates hatch and can get even the most skeptical trout or grayling to focus on the surface.

Our good old friend, the Danish flytyer and fly fisherman Kaj Kirkeby has for many years practiced the mayfly fishing and the fly tying of precisely these large insects. Therefore, it was obvious to team up with him for the development of our bid on the ultimate hook for mayflies (The FW538/539 Mayfly Dry). Kaj has many thoughts about both sizes, but more importantly the design of the hook and especially the flies we tie to imitate the real insect. We have had him in our studio to tie one of his favorite E. Vulgate imitations with a quite special wing-design originally of Spanish fly tyer Luis Means Baeza. Please notice that if you want to tie an imitation of the Ephemera Danica instead of the Ephemera Vulgata as shown in the video, just change the body to one brown and two or three white moose mane.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
