Here we will be tying a Mini Sunburst version of the famous Black Ghost by mr. Herbert Welch, in my own version I fish a LOT. This fly is a great option for lake fishing but I'd dress is heavier for deeper running water. The fly catches both brown trout and seatrout, and even salmon. Black Ghost by mr. Welch first came out around 1927 and has been tied in multiple versions ever since. This version I highly recommend since it's been giving me amazing results ever since I tied it around 2005. What's also fun with this fly is the fact that you can almost always find scrap for it, leftovers of the feathers, the zonker strip and more. This might the be poor mans version of Black Ghost. The fly is simple to tie and totally worth keeping a few in your box when you go fishing!
Pattern
Author: Herbert Welch (Ívar's version)
Hook: Ahrex FW580 #10
Thread: Semperfli Nano Silk 50D black.
Rib: Semperfli golden tinsel.
Tail: ½ Yellow and ½ orange feather mixed.
Body: Black body stretch, or aurora yarn.
Throat: Yellow cock or hen.
Wing: Hareline Dubbin zonker strip, fur only.
Eyes: Bath chain eyes, not too heavy, or similar dumbbell eyes.
Head: UV Solarez Bone Cure.
