What the open boot revealed:
These inner soles are broken in more than one way. The steel reinforcement has obviously not been designed for salt and the inner sole that separates the feet from the outer shell and soles has come loose.
This is a very common problem with most wading boots. They are just not built for salt.
The sand underneath is just a tiny fraction of what entered the boots through the loose outer sole.
