Gear!

For real glossy magazine cover quality images you have to bring quite a lot of gear. Kristian who sets up for this image not only has a huge tripod for his large Nikon, but also screens to soften the light, a set of bellows to shade the lens and a large flash with a soft box. This is not what I'd recommend to the average photographing angler. Kristian is a pro and much more a photographer than an angler.
