Notes: Everyone needs to have a rainbow trout fry streamer and Barry has been hard at work studying the natural fry to come up with this superb design.
Barry says "I find flies like this are useful in the lakes that I fish when large trout are feeding in the shallows in and around the pencil weeds. Most times when they are in there they are feeding on minnows. I have been trying to find a fly of my own that is consistent at this time, there are plenty of others that will do the job but there is a certain degree of satisfaction derived from taking good fish on patterns that you create yourself."
The subtle pink midline present in the streamer and the speckling of the Coq de Leon put this pattern over the top. The streamer has a classic look and feel to it and a nice sense of realism. Large mykiss are in trouble if they happen to cross paths with this tempting mix of fur and feather.

Barry, very nice, especially the Pink BT. I have been working on a lot of Smelt patterns lately, and came up with one that uses CoqdeLeon over a pink hackle. You might try that out also.
Again, excellent job!
Cheers, Joel

That is truly a beautiful pattern. Perhaps one of the best imitations of small rainbow trout, with the pink underwing and the speckled CDL outer wing hackle.

This is an outstanding fly. I adore it. Wonderful use of materials, and it clearly will be a winner with the fish too!

Fantastic pattern Barry I love the use of CDL in the wings on a few streamers I use as well. I will be tying a few of these before April1 here.
