GFF FlyMeister

This is an old contest!
It was held many years ago.
This is here for historical reasons.

Revived Apr 20. 2025

Intro

A historical archive

FlyMeister 2001 was the first and - until now - only flytying contest that we have ever had on the Global FlyFisher.
It took place in connection with the International Flytying Symposion in 2001, and was one of the few occasions where the GFF staff got together in person.

In April 2025 I bumped into the data and images from back in 2001 and thought it would be fun to revive it - for sentimental and historical reasons. We like to keep old content alive and online here on GFF, as you might know.

We spent quite a bit of time and ressources finding sponsors, prizes and judges, and ended up with a very decent lineup of both, and even though the logistics were pretty tough to handle, I whink we managed to get out most of the prizws and give the the tyers what they deserved.

You can read a long story and see lots of pictures from back then - and get an impression of what we each experienced as arrangers.

Unfortunately not all the flies were photographed, and because of that some of the entries are not illustrated. I chose to include them enyway - again for historical and archival reasons.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
