How many times have you got to a perfect looking spot in the river, but no visible fish and not a take after 3 or 4-5 drifts, you change fly and still nothing from this perfect looking spot and you move on.
Next time before you change flies and move on, just change your position. If you were diagonally left behind the fish, go right diagonal behind the fish. Or just change the weight of the fly.
As my French friends say, IT IS ALL IN THE DRIFT.
Changing the weight and the position will change the drift of the fly. It is all in the drift.
