See the take
I have seen so many fly fishers when they nymph, that they do not see or recognize a take. The take is often so gentle and surreptitious that the fly fishers think it is the current or the bottom.
When in doubt or if you are wondering if that was a take, you should have done a hook set/strike.
You do not have to rip the fly out of the water with a vicious strike, but a gentle quick 5 centimeter or 2 inch strike.
Another tip is fi you see the flash, you should have “set the hook all ready” meaning you strike as soon as you see the flash. Do not wait for the indicator or the tap of the take or the show of a flash.
Other times, set the hook with a gentle strike when you are drifting the fly thru a good spot, you will be surprised to see how many times you catch a fish.

Since you got this far …
… I have a small favor to ask.
Long story short
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
Long story longer
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
