Taking stuck rod sections apart

If you have two sections that are stuck, there are various ways of pulling the sections apart.

  1. you can try by putting the sections behind your knees, crouch with the rod in the bent section behind your knees, and gripping with either hand on the outside of your knees and forcing your knees apart.
  2. you and a friend can take the sections, but make sure that each has a hand on the opposing section - not each one pulling a complete section as you can snap the rod
  3. put in a fridge or pack some ice on the ferrule joint. The inner male ferrule will shrink and the female ferrule will shrink "differently" (think about the ball and ring science experiment).

Hi!

Just simply use working gloves made of fabric and with a good palm grip layer... I always have one pair in the boot of the car and/or the fishing bag. It always work and you will never damage the rod.

Cheers,

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
