I never get tired of tying and swinging soft hackle flies, and the Peacock Flymph is as simple as it gets. A pinch of dubbing and a soft webby hackle is all you need. The dubbing can be substituted with real peacock herl, which is beautiful... but slightly more fragile.

Great wet fly...has segmentation and a variegated hackle and a bit of shiny thorax.

When it comes to books, there's nothing I like more than focus. A book that has a well defined subject and covers in depth rather than broad has my vote already before I have opened it.

Buying Soft Hackle

The soft hackle is supposed to be - as the name implies - soft. Soft hackle can come from many birds. Chickens, gamebirds like partridge, grouse and quail, pheasant and even crows and jackdaws.

The story of this books is a fascinating one. The author Emrys Evans passed away in 2008 at the age of 91. In his life he had collected Welsh fly patterns.
