New search
We have installed a new search facility
We have for a long time relied on Google as the engine in our search facility, but for some reason Google has abandoned us and our number of entries has plummeted from close to 20,000 to less than 2,500. Not that we have a lot more than 2,500 pages, but Google used to index out site very meticulously, but has lost track of a lot of our articles, meaning that we cannot rely on the Google results anymore.
Lots of site experience what we have seen on Global FlyFisher. Itâs referred to as âThe Google Danceâ, which is the popular name for the shuffle that Google sometimes performs. This shuffle can drastically â and sometimes inexplicably â change a siteâs position in its searches.
We were a victim of The Google Dance.
We donât want to wait for Google to enter the dance floor again, but in stead installed our own crawler and our own search system. For the interested itâs called PhpDig and is an open source system provided as a free program by PhpDig.net.
It does work rather well, and we have now indexed most of the site. The search is fast and the results seem to be absolutely in order and we have set up the presentation with some spiffy graphics and the stats that we have always had on the search page.

Since you got this far …
… I have a small favor to ask.
Long story short
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
Long story longer
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
