Pictures in books

No comments yet

I am currently reading through a few of the many new books I have bought and recieved for review recently. And I have noticed one thing: quite a few of them have too few and too bad pictures. Actually, some of them are black and white only, which in this day and age is far from good enough to satisfy my requirements for a really good book.

A modern book should not only be printed in color - the cost has come down a lot during the last years - but it should also be stuffed with good pictures. Even the books that do come in color genrally have too few pictures.

Readers are used to seeing good and plenty pictures in magazines, on web sites like Global FlyFisher and in many books.

I can forgive older books for not having color. I love the neat pen drawings of the late Torp Jacobsen, the prints in Three in Norway, which I'm currently reading or the nice vignettes in Niel Patterson's Chalkstream Chronicle, which I bought recently. The style is perfect for these works.

But a book from 2000 or later with dull B/W photos - maybe spiced up with a few pages in color - that's not good enough.

Since you got this far …

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
