As some of you know, I work as a self-employed consultant on larger web projects. As such I should actually be celebrating a period with lots of work, since more work means more money.
But I don't!
More work means only one thing: less fishing.
Well, it actually also means less time for family and friends, less time to tie flies, less time to go to the movies, less time to cook and a lot of other things that I would much rather be doing than working.
My philosophy is: I work to live, and just barely. The less work needed to make my way through the week the better, and I have realized a very long time ago that you will never be rich if your income is closely connected to the time you spend working - as it is for most of us. As long as our salaries are closely coupled to the amount of hours we work, we are limited by the 24 hours a day, minus sleep, minus meals, minus family time, minus fishing time. That seriously lowers the income cieling.
If you want to get rich, hire people, buy and sell, own. Anything but ordinary work paid by the hour. Personally I'm much too unambitious to want to spend my life pursuing a fortune, which I will most likely never make.
I'd much rather go fishing!
