#276 Maligne Laker - Alan Grombacher #276 Maligne Laker - Alan Grombacher

Tied by: Alan Grombacher

Originated by: Alan Grombacher

Hook: #2 Partridge CS15

Thread: White Pearsalls Gossamar silk thread

Body: Silver flat tinsel

Ribbing: Silver oval tinsel

Belly: Red bucktail

Throat: Red hackle fibers

Underwing: Peacock herl

Wing: 2 olive hackles flanked by grizzly dyed red

Eye: Jungle cock nail

Head: Black Pearsalls Gossamar silk thread

Notes: The red and olive hackles in the wing make for a quite interesting combination. This is one of Alan's creations destined to hook the large brookies out of Jasper's Maligne Lake. The lake has a healthy population of brook and rainbow trout, and the distinction of being the lake from which Alberta's largest recorded rainbow trout (over 20 lbs) was caught. Brookies in the lake can also grow large, into the 10 lb and bigger range.

The Maligne laker has been one of my most successful patterns. Brookies simply love to slam this fly. Rainbows of the mountain lakes also like it. It is one of two similar patterns that use a similar color combination. This pattern fishes well throughout Westerns Canada. ~ Al Grombacher

Long story short

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
