#263 Pirate - Robert Frandsen and Peter Simonson #263 Pirate - Robert Frandsen and Peter Simonson

Tied by: Robert Frandsen(top) and Peter Simonson(bottom)
Originated by: Carrie G. Stevens
Source: Carrie G. Stevens: Maker of Rangeley Favorite Trout and Salmon Flies - Hilyard Pg. 142 - 143

Hook: Mustad 3907A #2
Tag: Wide silver mylar tinsel
Body: Red floss
Rib: Narrow silver mylar tinsel
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: Red, then yellow hackle fibers
Underwing: 4-6 strands of peacock herl
Wing: 4 gray hackles
Underwing support: Gray hackle fibers
Shoulder: Blue-green peacock breast feather
Cheek: Jungle cock
Head: Black (with Orange band)

Notes: The Pirate is one of the more striking Carrie Stevens patterns with the quite colorful blue peacock feather. Based on the records kept by those catching salmon on the upper dam pool, the fly makes it debut around 1931. Surely this one is tied to not only catch the salmon but also the angler.

Oh, It's also "International Talk Like A Pirate Day", so sit down at your tyin' desk and whip up a batch o' these great lookin' streamers t' use on your next trip t' troll for landlocked fish ye scurvey dawgs.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
