Loretta's Biography

Growing up in Hamilton, Ontario, my sole fishing experience was the occasional trip to Port Dover, Ontario with my dad, a spin rod and package of worms.

It was not until 2007 that I was introduced to fly fishing by a friend Mike MacIlroy and I was instantly hooked. I just had to learn everything I could about it. When Mike told me he tied his own flies I was intrigued, and so during the winter of 07/08 Mike lent me a vice of his and I acquired a few materials and proceeded to soak up and knowledge from whoever would listen to me and learned the basics of fly tying.

In December of 2009 I met the man who would change my life forever. Robert Marc Madore mentored me In the art of fly tying and about fly fishing. He was very patient and very generous with his time in teaching me everything I wanted to know about tying flies. He was more then willing to pass on his knowledge and I was just as eager to soak it up. I will always treasure our time together and I cannot thank him enough for all that he has done for me.

Thank you Gary. This is a favourite of mine to fish for Atlantic salmon in the early Spring. I designed a marabou feather wing version that was successful earlier this Spring. I landed a beautiful 20lb 40+ inch male Kelt on the Miramichi near Blackville.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
