Spring pike up north

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Finaly! After a really busy spring (and autumn) with atleast 10cancelled trips and a couple skunked ones it all finaly wen't in the right direction.

The water in "my lake" has finaly cleared up enough to have around 35cm of sight and the spawning is running a bit low due to the cold weather last week.
Did it go well? Oh yes, the ordinary pike in the area is between 0,5 and 2kg, not big and the fishing started of with a couple of small fish just aroung the 1kg mark, altough several of them had bitemarks as from crocodiles all across their backs and my hope for a grand lady started to rise. Then the rain came...
For 4hours it poured down as if someone was taking a leak from the sky but it turned into one of those calm and magic springevenings when the rain finaly ended and the sky cleared up.

We concentrated our fishing around the margins and to the area around a small creek that is the lakes major inlet. The boat slowly drifted along the shore and just when we passed a small peak of lilybeds all hell broke loose. My 10# rod bent deep in the handle and the boat rocked heavily as the fly stopped as a bullet hits a brick wall.

After 10min of my knees playing maracas and arms feeling like overboiled spagetti i landed my to this date best pike on a fly, 95,5cm from a lake with topofraphy like a saladbowl.

Thats a real nice fish, congrats! Can't wait till the season opens up here in The Netherlands (it's closed season now until the end of May due to spawning period  )

Well that means that i should be open again now then!
I think that more countries should have closed season during the spawning. The swedish arcipelago could win a lot from it.

It's midsummer feast in sweden now and the fishing is running slow due to high temperatures but im going out to do some night fishing next week.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
