#49 Charmed Witch - Kelly Lovelady

Tied by: Kelly Lovelady
Originated by: Kelly Lovelady

Hook: Mustad 94720 #4
Tag: Silver mylar tinsel
Tail: Yellow hackle fibers
Body: Fl. orange floss
Rib: Flat copper tinsel edged by black silk rib (marabou silk)
Belly: Sea Blue fluoro fiber then white bucktail
Throat: Yellow hackle fibers
Wing: Two white hackles flanked by kingfisher blue hackle (1 or 2)
Shoulder: Golden pheasant tippet
Eye: Jungle cock
Head: Black

Notes: Kelly originated the Charmed Witch in August 2011. The Charmed Witch pattern uses two colors she has always been fond of, orange and blue. Kelly gets her most creative ideas at night. Blue is a color very attractive to fish, but not often used for fishing.

"I thought about what I wanted, then went into my tying area, and made most of the fly. I was not sure about the shoulder I wanted, so I tried a few feathers up next to the body, and decided upon the golden pheasant tippets. I can get involved with a new pattern, and stay up until 1:00 am working on my idea."

This was Kelly's second Rangeley styled pattern, and we are looking forward to seeing more from her in the future.

Kelly that is a stunning fly -- the warmth of the yellow and orange and the soft cool blue. Really well done! I bet fish will like it too.

Thanks Ken! The wing had gray followed by kingfisher blue hackles. (light to med gray)
I am glad you like the fly. :-) I had not been tying many long featherwings before I came up with this pattern.

Wow Kelly I love the pattern and amazing job on tying it. I will have to try and tie a few of these up before opening day. I have a soft spot for any streamers with blue in it for fishing our rivers here.

Gary, I would be honored for you to do that! Thank you!

Beautiful fly, Kelly. I agree that blue tends to be underutilized in flies and can be a real winner. Well done!

Thank you Monte. I love blue in a fly. There is one particular place I fish now and then, where blue is a big winner.

Kelly, that´s a blast. Mainly as the beautiful combination of colors. I appreciate that you tied up another pattern of yours... Petr

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
