Source: Rare and Unusual Fly Tying Materials: A Natural History. Volume 2-Birds & Mammals, Schmookler Pg. 301
Hook: 1/0 Harrison Bartleet Dee (ground point and tweaked shape) with gut eye
Thread: Red
Tail: Red hackle, red lady Amherst
Body: Large silver oval tinsel
Body hackle: Gold fire fly tye
Wing: 2 cream hackles flanked by Cree hackle
Shoulder: Jungle cock body
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: Red
Notes: Alex Rogan may best be remembered for his variation of Carrie Stevens' Grey Ghost, but also his unusual use of tinsel on his creations. He uses tisel for many purposes including bodies, throat and wings, but most striking is the use of tinsel as hackle. This became his trademark material in the 1940's but wasn't a trend that made it to the mainstream. Val incorporates a nod to Rogan with his tinsel hackled creation. The customized Harrison Bartleet Dee hook gives the streamer a look like no other with its dangerous curves.
