Notes: In 1954, T. William 'Bill' Samuels Sr., purchased the Burks' Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. It wasn't until 1958 that the first bottle of Makers Mark made it's way out of the barrel and into a bottle and sealed with the distinctive drippy red wax seal which Joel replicates with the red shoulder and throat on the fly. Joel made a fine job echoing the tones of the golden bourbon using rich ginger variant hackles streaked with black bars. If you plan to tie your own version of Joel's streamer, it is recommended to have a tumbler of the golden whisky to savour as you set to work. Sniff, sip, savour, wrap and repeat.

A fly named after the only bourbon worth drinking... What is there not to love about this one!

Still have two MM's unopened and waiting for the 'just' right occasion. Keep missing the visit to the distillery ~ I have passed it several times, timing not there but I will succeed... :)
