Notes: The Watson's Fancy is a beautiful classic wet fly, but Dave's conversion is equally stunning. The wet fly was developed by Scottish angler Donald Watson with the intention of chasing the sea trout and legendary brown trout of Scotland and Ireland. The pattern exists in several versions originating from different sources. Dave's source is Ray Bergman's 'Trout' which features the red positioned in the front and the golden pheasant tippet tail. The other strong lineage in the pattern reverses the body colours with black up front, and rather than a golden pheasant tippet, the crest or yellow hackle fibers is placed at the tail.

The original wet fly, is most often seen dressed with jungle cock cheeks & a seals fur body as well as several other differences. The cheeks were thought to have added to it's "killing" abilities by quite a bit in most cases. I don't know if it would make a difference on this version though.
