Pete,...

Pete,

That looks like one killer fly! I like the scaly mylar. So lifelike!

Great fly...

This would make a good additon to my brook trout flies that imitate sand eels and capelin

Thanks for the fly

NICE work

Pete:
Great variation on the Surf Candy. Now I know what to do with those mylar scale stick ons I brought.

epoxy variables......

The temperature of the epoxy and the mixing surface will affect clarity and cure times...
A space heater was a bit too close and my glass mixing slab was warm to the touch...
'Resulting in an abrupt cure, bubbles, and deminished clarity...
Colour transmission was less precise and somewhat muddled...
Definitely fishable but not as crisp and defined as it could be...
The Striped Focus Group will have the final approval...or NOT !?

TUFFLEYE acrylic alternative......

[b:fbeff1ab71]So...the space heater makes my tyeing bunker toasty/warm on this snowy/cold day...
After yesterday's curious exercise in epoxy...
I decided it's time for a Tuffleye acrylic BLS (blue light special)...BRILLIANT!
The clarity is Swarovski and the overall effect IMHO is beyond ACCEPTABLE...

Pete,

The Tuffleye stuff looks good. Gotta try it.

Another Tuffleye......

Like a cameleon...surrounding colours are curiously picked up..."internals" display nicely!
There's some trimmed mylar inside this one...opal like, it comes and goes depending on light angles...

I enjoy epoxy!...Tuffleye? I was sceptical at first, but the more I use it, the more I likle it...
The learning curve is not as steep as the initial sticker price (core/finish/light/ac adaptor)...
The concept and application will open the door to some interesting horizons!
For the price of a few Cuban cigars and/or maybe a single malt, it's a great new on-the-edge tool !

Good looking baitfish patterns, and enough to fill several boxes too.
You seem well prepared for the coming season.

Swarovski crystal......

Thanks Martin...
I like the way this stuff gathers the light and reflects colours...
Here is some holographic braid under the acrylic...

FLEX......

Tuffleye FLEX...the "next generation"...
'Slightly thicker consistency than the FINISH...thinner than the CORE...same BlueLight cure...
The biggest difference is the semi-soft gummy bear like final product which seems to be more durable and shatter resistant...
No smell / No mixing / I like it...A LOT!

Interesting stuff that won't shatter on impact with a beach berm or boat parts...
To finish it off I still prefer an alcohol wipe down and a coat of hard-as-nails...

Pete,...

Pete,

As always: amazing! Those are nice shrimps, and definitely something I'd put on my tippet. Compared to our local shrimp (the natural) they seem just a bit large, but on the other hand people here are using flies like the Pink Pig, which seems to be too large for my taste too. But it catches fish. No need to argue about that - in spite of its color and size.

mylar + acrylic = good...

There are "magic systems" out there that employ liquid acrylics that are "cured" with the application of narrow band Blue Spectrum light or UV light...[depending on the system chemistry]...
I prefer the non-UV Tuffleye Blue Light specific system for personal reasons... UV bouncing around is a vision related concern... The dental industry runs with Non-UV... to each their own...
but I digress...
Regardless... The results are entertaining, stimulating, and quite encouraging...
Add a little at a time... built the fly and cure as you go... consider it "fly spot welding"...
No odor... No turning wheel... Epoxy be gone!

'Salvaged some wrapping paper and finally got around to using it to simulate a gill plate...

a little "dark" goes a long way...
