Originated by: Bill Edson
Hook: Mustad 94720 #2
Thread: White 8/0
Body: Silver flat tinsel the a thin strand of pale blue tinsel along each side of the body
Rib: Silver oval tinsel
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: Red hackle fibers
Wing: 4 dun hackles
Shoulder: Silver pheasant body
Eyes: Jungle cock nail
Head: Silver oval tinsel
Notes: Mr. Edson named the streamer for his dear wife. The Dot Edson was designed as a smelt pattern and should be dressed sparsely. The pattern is unique for a number of attributes such as the fine blue tinsel tied along the side of the body, secured by the ribbing material. The pattern also includes a bright silver head which may be painted or finished using tinsel. Mr. Edson was known to use a short jungle cock nail on the cheek / eye, but you may also find examples where a gold reflector cheek replaces the jungle cock.
These metal gold reflector cheeks ensured that Mr. Edson had a reliable supply of cheek material. Jungle cock was not always readily available and rising costs may have factored into the decision to experiment with the new cheek. The gold reflector cheeks were an option he offered on his streamers and he soon found himself tying the majority of his orders with them. The reflector cheeks added a whole new aspect to how the streamers looked and fished with the added weight at the head and a little extra flash.
