Pete,...

Pete,

You keep on churning out these amazing baitfish flies! Endless variation and still a very distinct style.

You might be striving for the Jack Factor, but you definitely have the Pete Factor as it is.

I have been extremely busy with work lately and haven't tied for a while, but have on my itinerary to tie up some Pete's Welded Phlies for this upcoming season. The have to be able to catch fish here too!

Keep 'em coming.

Pete,...

Pete,

I would have love to go! I went a few times, and thoroughly enjoyed the show, meeting the GFF crew plus a large bunch of old and new friends. I even got to fish on several occasions - local small streams, stripers and stocked browns on Long Island.

I can see that this year would have put me face to face with a lot of people whom I haven't met - including yourself - as well as a whole bunch of old friends.

I'm glad the show was good. It usually is. I almost regret that I didn't go, but it's a bit more than a car drive from here...

\'as the Winter Solstice approaches......

[b:485fdd5338]G'day Martin… [and Jay flew in for the weekend from Durban…YIKES!]
The Fly Tying Symposium has expanded over the past several years, but it's still like a Private Cabaret compared to the Fly Fishing Show which is like a three ring circus on steroids…
They are both great fun and are organized and run by the same swell folks but they have very different personalities…
For tying, come to the cabaret in November… for tying AND everything else, come to Cirque du Somerset in late January…
I'm once again looking forward to tying/welding @ the Bear's Den booth and have already started make a game plan… unless a blizzard changes everything… weshallsee…
Of all the curious things that I saw at the Symposium, Jim Matson's Pulse Disc left the biggest impression…
Where does phly end and lure begin…
perhaps I should refer to these as phlures…[/b:485fdd5338]

Good thread. Good streamers. ...

Good thread. Good streamers. I didn't read all 5 pages. Did someone mention long streamers with the hook up front might result in too many short strikes? At least in the smaller fish, fresh water context?

Perhaps that's how the good tube fly photos showed up.

I have another take. I make a lot of fresh water streamers much like the originals in this thread, tied on a snelled hook. I use a barrel swivel up front connected to a trailing stinger made with a sharp scud hook. Knot mono to the swivel. Flatten the rear wire loop of the barrel swivel. Snell on a scud hook. Poke the rear of the swivel onto a horizontal beading needle. Tie a streamer onto the flattened loop and the mono knot. Similar to a tube fly I guess. But I like it better. No photo right now. I'll add one soon. A short shank hook on trailing mono hooks more reliably than a long shanked hook. A lot more reliably. And better than a long streamer with a short hook at the head of the fly.
