McKenzie vise light...

Fuzzycaddis,

I have a McKenzie vise light, which attaches rto the stem of the vise and has a flexible arm. It uses a standard 12V halogen lamp so you can choose what strength you want.

I love it!

I can't find a MacKenzie site, but there are lots of dealers who sell it.

I bought one of these with a "Natural" light tube in it. I took a few flies around with me and tried them out under several lamps. I know you weren't asking about magnifying lenses, but I soon wished I had bought this 20 years ago....Kerry

I have a Mackenzie, and it is a convenient light to have attached to your vise. My only complaints would be that it can get a bit hot, and that the light source is a fine point, which can create some sharp glare when tying tinsel bodied streamers & the like.

I also have an Ott light, but not the regular folding model you see most use. While convenient to travel with, it doesn't have a good height IMO for illuminating over top of the fly. Some kind of platform to raise it might help. I ended up getting the model called a DeskPro at Staples, which is is about 6" taller. I like it.

My latest and last tying lamp......

I too have come close to being a recipient of the dreaded McKenzie forehead branding...HOT!

About a year ago I started using the DayLightCompany.com table to lamp and there's NO going back...
I am very pleased with the quality, colour rendition, cool temp, and swing away magnifying glass option.
The base is robust (as is the price)...I wish I had gone there straight away...NO REGRETS! :D
