long life to GFF

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.
Martin

hI everybody,

I'm a french flyfisherman and sincerely GFF is the world's best site

Long life to GFF

An excellent web site indeed.

Recent threads are no longer visible in front page of the GFF site. I’m afraid that the new Forum can go more or less unnoticed though…

My sincere best wishes with the new forum.
It's also wonderful to be able to edit ones post especially when one maks luads of speging mistaks!

Hi,
I've recently registered and begun reading all the interesting information, here. It\'s a great site, and hopefully, the new forum set-up will encourage a lot of use and exchange of ideas.

My best,
Mark

Excellent and most usefull site and now I hope the Forum will be also

Everybody.

Thanks from me, the partners and all the contributors for those heartwarming words!
We too hope that the new forum will make GFF even better.

Again: thanks!

Martin

I've enjoyed the information on this site for a few years now and have had many of the wallpapers up on my desktop. I particularly like the international flavor of this site and with the new forum, the sharing of info from all around the world should be great.

Here here, I got through the woods too... :P
good work Martin!

Kirk,

We spent quite a lot of money on producing some really nice stritched caps once back when. But what was supposed to be a small source of income to pay for hosting and other expenses on the site turned out to be a very slow business. And the people who ordered were spread all over the world and it cost us a fortune in postage.

We could consider doing another batch, but we'd probably have to take in orders before having them produced and have people pay the full postage for them. But we certainly have a lot more people visiting the site today, and might actually make some money to cover expenses.

I'll discuss it with the guys

Martin

Hi Martin,

You can add my name to the list for a GFF hat. Mine is about to fall to pieces... :?

I've been "reading" for a few years and GFF has never been anything less than impressive. Rich content and plenty of it. Cheers!

* Oh, and if hats (or any other GFF materials) come to light, count me in.

I agree with the opax. Knowing the GFF staff, I figure it's just a matter of time before they get that feature back online.

Cheers

I guess this is more for Martin, but I can load everything on the site with a very fast response except for the forum. It's sometimes 10 seconds before I get a response. I would blame the forum database, since the static pages and even the gallery pages load amazingly fast. It seems like there is a DNS timeout trying to resolve the database server before it checks the host file, something like that.

Of course, you probably already know this.

Cheers

I agree with some thoughts:

1. GFF is the best Flyfishing site worldwide

2. Everlasting success for GFF!

3. I want a cap too!

4. Forum Meister: Please do something to avoid this forum to fall in the underworld! This is the greatest chance Flyfishers around the world have to "Globalize"!! I don't know, a highly visible link on the frontpage, some kind of advertiising...

Thanks again Martin, Bob & Co.!!!

You rule!!

Thanks, Martin.

Mike,

Yup. Fooled around with a module for the forum yesterday, and even though it was not as simple as in the old one, I got it to work in the end.

Regarding the forum and database response time you may be right. The system has to shift between two databases (but on the same server) when going from GFF in general to the forum and back and this can take time... but several seconds seems to be way too much. I'll see what I can do. Haven't seen the problem myself. Can you see in your status line in the browser what it's trying to read when it sticks?

It seems much faster since this weekend. I think you fixed it while you were messing around elsewhere. If it slows down again, I'll let you know where.

Being a website owner as well, I am fully aware of the amount of work required to keep a website current and popular. Martin and his colleague have certainly employed their dedication, effort and time to keep both the content and the layout of Global Flyfisher appealing. Congratulations on what you have accomplished and I look forward to see what GFF brings to the readers in the future. :)

I'm back in Copenhagen again in May and June, looking forward to connecting with some garfish, pike, brown trout and grayling. :D

Best regards,

As Ripley told you, you rather should take to Jylland instead. You're welcome to visit me in Holstebro. Except the garfish, you can catch the three other species 1,5 kilometers from my place in the same river and at nearly the same place in a river called Storå. For the garfish you have to drive 20 kilometers to Struer and the area around the Oddesund bridge.
If you are interested in a guide and a place to stay, just drop me a line.

Kind regards, Michael

Greetings from Finland!

I would like first of all thank you for the Great site, absolutely best fly fishing site I know. I have visited here since '97 I think when it was Fishing Denmark. I remember that I printed out some fly recipes in work because I didint have internet connection home :) Since then I have been visiting here often and check out if there something interesting to read, and yes many times there is.

So long life to the Global Fly Fisher, hope that you will keep up the good work!

I'm also upkeeping fly fishing site in Finnish, you dont understand a word, but maybe you would like to check out some pictures from [url=http://www.perhokalastajat.net/kuvagalleria/thumbnails.php?album=lastup… gallery[/url], there is 4791 pics at the moment from Finland and some from other coutries too.

Have a nice summer and tight lines! :)

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
