rainshadow RX7+

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Hello,
I will be building a new rod this winter (9' 4pc 5wt), and I'm looking at a Rainshadow RX7+ blank. But it seems that I can't find any reviews, or comments good or bad, on this blank, other then what the manufactor wrote. Ive buils two rods using rainshadow blanks the RX7, and the RX8 excel. the RX7 I still own and fish, and is a very nice rod, the excel lasted only one fishing trip and broke on about the fifth cast. Has anyone built a rod on this blank, and how would you rate it?
Thanks
Paul Kalbrener

Hi Frank,

I never did get the RX7+, I ended up getting a Dan Craft FT 905-4 and I can say that it is a real canon, I like to fish it with a 6wt line, and although it is rated as one of the fastest blanks on the market it has a very soft tip section and is a lot of fun to fish with.

Hey, Paul,

Well, until now I just heared good things about the Dan Craft blanks, escpecially about that series. I would be pleased to try that stick, but I guess, I have to be patient till then.

On the other hand I ordered a CTS AffinityOne-blank for a friend a couple of weeks ago.
And I have to say that that blank has an superb strong, fast but sensitive progressive action. I guess I fell for them and it would be ok for me if CTS redefines AffinityOne in S.E.X.Y.
Anyway, I will build up a two-hander from CTS during the winter and looking forward to that experiment.

T.L., Frank

Hey Frank,

Here is a pic (hopefully) of my last build its a CTS Affinity one 906-4, it is by far the nicest rod that I have ever cast, and a real joy to fish. Its the rod that I use for seatrout fishing in Denmark.

Hi, Paul,

The rod looks very nice. Is the colour golden plum from CTS? By the way, the grip reminds me on a rod I´ve been building last year. One of my favorite allrounders for the riverfishing, an Sage SLT 690-4. But that´s something total different to the AffinityOne.

Since you got this far …

Long story short

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
