Gozo or Malta

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Does anyone have info on fly-fishing in Gozo, (small Maltese island)? I would be fishing from the shore.

I have posted a question on another website, but here seems to be the centre for all things fly-fishing, and the fishingmalta website seems to be totally un-knowing about 'swff-ing'. We are going there in May for just a week, and the airline baggage-limits won't allow leeway for lots of fishing gear. Guess it'll be one rod, maybe two.

We will be on the west coast, but the place is so small it is no problem to travel anywhere on the island of Gozo. I would guess that we are talking about bass, mullet, etc, possibly some warm-water species??

Any info - please.
Regards,
Les

Kasper my friend,
You are a gem! Thanks for this, I was beginning to despair of the sense in taking a fly-rod. Now I'll see if I can squeeze in two!

Tight lines in the coming season my friend.
If you want to come to Devon, give us a shout.

Kasper,
As a holiday Gozo was great, but for fishing it was dismal! I tried flyfishing from the rocks a couple of times (we were only there a week, and it was a holiday with Nan and her sister and brother-in-law). The water was amazingly clear, and I could see small fish, but they didn't want to bite!

I tried some mullet with a fly, no joy there either. I think maybe the fishing close to shore might be better in the summer and autumn, when the water has warmed up. While we were there in early May it was freezing! There is a good chance we will go back on our own later in the year (September?) as I have a friend who has recently moved out there to work, and we can go and stay with him. So there may be more news later on...

Thanks for asking, and thanks for the medflyfish website info.

Tight lines!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
