Not quite sure how I stumbled on you page, but it was heartfelt. I often yell at fishermen who tell me SOMEDAY, You are so right in doing it now. I talked a 65 year old guy into going to Alaska last year. Met him in a parking lot steelhead fishing in Pulaski NY. Yelled at him for saying he wants to fish Alaska someday. He went had a great time and we have been friends ever since. The other line I dislike is a fishing trip of a life time. He'll if it was that good go back. I wish you luck and better health.

thanks for your answer, I hoped you know at least a dozen of flies I don't know. :wink: But your fly is a good start for me! I tried something in the tail of "my" Golden pheasant shrimp but it didn't work well......but I'll try further on.

I'm pleased to see that you mentioned the history of the pattern and that you had been tying a lot of tubes. When I first saw this pattern I knew how I would use it, and as a life long tier and fisher, respectfully modify it too. I say that knowing that tradition sometimes gets in the way of fishings local practices. I will tie this as a tube or on a Wadington shank using a short shanked hook.
My area of the northwest coast fish seem to throw the short hooks less often and the price and accessability are much more forgiving. Knowing that tradition for some tyers is precisely why they do them this way I am reluctant on occasion to mention that altho I love a pattern I have observed I tend to adapt them to the waters and needs of the rivers I fish. The Grande Ronde in Southeast Washington loves any fly you fish for steelhead as long as it's Black. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks Dan. That's the wonderful thing about tying your own, you can modify anything to suit your needs. I'd lover to see this in shank, tube or hook form taking a wild steelhead. That would be pretty awesome.

Barry, very nice, especially the Pink BT. I have been working on a lot of Smelt patterns lately, and came up with one that uses CoqdeLeon over a pink hackle. You might try that out also.

Fantastic pattern Barry I love the use of CDL in the wings on a few streamers I use as well. I will be tying a few of these before April1 here.

I like these ideas..
I just started tieing flys about. 3 months ago.
Just something go do. but I've. Been looking for pritty and colorful flys to tie and this web sit really helped.
