Hey Kasper,
My hat has 6 years of sweat, salt, various fly cremes, mud, fishy smells and other stuff embeded into it.
A trade for a crisp, clean GFF cap?
No. :?
Drag it around behind your car for a month or two in winter an I'll consider it!
Maybe I should make a picture of my hat in "Scratch and Sniff". :P
Later...

Bob,
The pattern uses felt pads and is usually referred to as The Felt Crab, but is known under other names too.
Here's a pattern description:

As the Rockin' Crab:

I tied a few of those felt pad crabs myself, but never got anywhere near enough to a permit to test them.
Hope this helps.

I returned from Fyn yeasterday. The weather was great for us but no so good for fish. Sky without any clouds, temperature about 25 degrees celsius. We went fishing especially in the morning and in the evening. Quite good number of small garfish were everywhere.
Our group of 8 fishermen caught approx 40 fish with 5 over 50cm and one over 55cm.

This is exactly the information I was looking for! I have these beautiful roosters and although they are destined for the dinner table, I hate to waste their feathers. I thought that perhaps there might be a market for them for fly tying.
Have you ever heard of the English way of killing? That seems to be the best way for me. I want to dispatch my birds as quickly and bloodlessly as possible. I get so much enjoyment out of them alive that a quick and relativly painless death is the way to go!

I find Bunny Strips of all kinds lethal for Largemouth Bass as well. I use super glue on the hook shank and it helps keep the fly alive. They really do last along time. They are perfect for that s l o w retrieve that Bigmouth's love to eat.

Oh Ripley, not another one!
I have a smaller net that would make that fish look bigger!

Hi Guys!
Now I've found what was keeping me out of the forum, you'll be plagued with me at every verse-end!
Steve, you are a lucky so-and-so, being able to fish Fyn so much. Tight Lines tomorrow, catch one for me. I will have to wait for Thursday to go bass-fishing, by then we have rain forecast... so it might be fly-tying instead, but I'll get to the coast if its anything like good enough. I want to see what I can do with a #5 rod and shooting head, plus a few small flies - I've been tying them up tonight.
Kai, sorry for misspelling your name previously. Tell me, did you get offered the job you were going for? Do you want it? Tell the news, as Nan is dying to know!
Ripley, you're a gem, son!
Wow! I have been telling anyone who would listen in Church this morning all about you fellas and the fun we had with you in Denmark. It'll seem a long time to wait till next year for another trip.
Regards to all,
Les

Hi Les,
I hope all is well with you and Nan. If you are ever in Denmark just give me a call. Fishing here is still good at my new secret section of fyn. Well i better pack my fishing gear in the car and get some sleep. I'm returning to my secret location tomorrow.
All the best
Steve

small can be deadly
Hi Les,
I did nothing. You caught the fish, not me...
It might be your first Danish sea trout but mark my words...It's not the last.
I will put you right over my personal stocked cage next time and place three divers bearing sea trout in the water in front of you.
I look forward to seeing you both next year, maybe, hopefully sooner?
Regards to sunny Devon, a county I know well from my young soldier days, and best regards to your wife.
Later Les.
P.S...Kai's fly was magic. If it's not named then I think the ideal name would be "Paul Daniels"...Your gonna like it, but not a lot :D :D

To all the GFF Summit people,
Our thanks to all of you guys for your company, help and friendship over the week-end. Special thanks to Martin for setting it all up, to Kie for the fly that worked the magic, to Kasper for loads of flies and advice (I'll try those flies on the bass next week) to Ripley for getting me to the first fish.... and to Henning who is cuddling Nan on the photo!!
If you are going to do this all again next year, then we are hoping to be part of it.
Regards from sunny Devon,
Les and Nan Austin

I'm surprise nobody has mentioned the bunny bug yet. It's a pike classic, and I first heard about it in [i:bfa384d9fa]Pike on the Fly [/i:bfa384d9fa] [url]http://www.amazon.com/Pike-Fly-Flyfishermans-Northerns-Muskies/dp/15556…]. Tie it on a larger saltwater hook, it has bead-chain eyes, bunny strip tail, some flash in the tail to make it shiny, and the body is palmered bunny strip. It's durable (you can catch 20 pike on it and it's still very useable--the pike are chewing on leather!!!), easy to tie, and effective.
The only bad thing about it is that a wet bunny bug is a pain to cast because it weighs about as much as a small brookie. I would recommend a 9-weight line and maybe a shooting head system just to get it out there.
Cheers

I know I sound like a minimalist from the Andy Warhol days but my most effective Esox fly, as well as my most effective Barracuda fly, has always been a silver tinsel covered medium to long shank streamer hook with the appropriate length yellow maribou wing tied on at the head. No tail or eyes or anything else. It is all a waste to me because after a few fish all you have left is a nicely shredded fly with a hook to recycle back to the vise. I will sometimes throw in a bit of red maribou. That is about as fancy as I need. Strip it fast or put the rod under your arm and do a hand over hand and make sure your hook is needle sharp.

Well, I think I'll pass on this idea. As much as I love the idea - I have already moulded some sort of fly storage system in my 6 year old hat.
So many people have taken pictures of my hat over the years, that I dare to count.
So many have offered to buy me a new hat but I have politely refused.
This picture was taken by Kasper Mühlbach. I think he secretly wanted it but couldn't find the words. :?
I imagine it has a place in his wallet or bedroom wall...

These are some of my favourite and most productive NorthEastStriperPhlyz...
If the sand eels are too long, I'll trim them down to please the focus group...
Let's see what's on your hit parade!

Just to let you know. Although the wind has stopped...The sea trout are still taking advantage of the conditions.
This beauty 58cm took me into backing and held a fight for 10 minutes.
1 week after the GFF summit the sea trout have moved into the neighbouring fjord / bay.
Wedellsborg is dead.
But we have found them. :D
It's just a matter of time before they enter the streams.
