Bonefish Theme
This is a first in the Global Flyfisher's history: a theme! This theme is about bonefishing, the hunt for one of the most sought after fish in the world: Albula Vulpes, the white fox or the ghost of the flats.

My good friend Richard Ross recently asked me what type of fishing was my favourite fishing. For a short while I was tempted to crown my home water pursuit for sea trout as my favourite, and if I had to think hard about it, my final answer would probably be just that.
But in the moment I said "bonefishing" with very little hesitation.
"That's what Lefty says too", was Richard's laconic answer.

Well ok, no lies probably, but then again... the books and videos that I recommend in connection with bonefishing might very well contain a few exagerations, but that doesn't make them less worth reading or watching.
I have tried to put together a list of the best material I have found on the subject: titles which will keep you well entertained—and educate you. See the annotated and linked list of books and DVD's here.
Bonefish flies are not art pieces. Most of the best bonefish flies are simple, efficient, easy-to-tie patterns in modest sizes and with very common and easily accessible materials.
The flies listed and described are some very common and widespread bonefish flies plus a couple, which are not as well known, but just as efficient. Check out the pattern descriptions and pictiures in the Boney Flies article.
These ten pieces of advice cover the usual wise recommendations such as selecting the right gear and learning to cast. But the article also give less traditional advice about footwear, glasses and sunscreen—not to mention the last point: Don't listen to the guide! Read all ten points in the article here.
This little treatise will give you a few details about the natural history of bonefish seen with the angler's perspective. It's not complicated and it does not contain many latin words. Learn a little biology in this article.

Long story short
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
Long story longer
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.
